Document of the Week
April 6, 2001 Read a 1985 report to the CMA Board of Directors from the State Affairs Committee detailing CMA's response to various state-level threats to their bottom line - from Superfund legislation, to hazardous waste transporation regulation. Among the battles they considered victories was the containment of Right-to-Know laws - which were all the more critical to the public in the wake of the disasterous explosion of a chemical plant in Bhopal, India that killed thousands. But they were wary of the future. "Our opponents will push for what they did not get this year -- emission monitoring and independent audits of our plant safety
programs."
